Setting up a canvas wall tent looks intimidating from the parking lot — it isn't. With a friction-fit aluminum frame there are no tools, no bolts, and no instructions to lose. Follow the five steps below and you'll go from truck bed to lit stove in about twenty minutes.

First time? You've got this.

Five steps from frame to finished camp

Build the roof low, pull the canvas over, then lift the sides and secure the finished tent.

  1. Canvas, aluminum poles and frame fittings laid out separately.

1Lay out the canvas and frame parts

Choose level ground, remove sharp objects and arrange the ridge poles, eave rails, rafters, fittings and upright wall legs. Keep the canvas clean and nearby.

  2. Roof trusses and rails assembled near ground level, without upright wall legs.

    2Assemble the roof frame low

Join the ridge, eave rails and roof trusses on the ground. Seat the friction-fit connections completely. Leave the upright wall legs off for now.

  3. Canvas pulled over assembled roof frame before installing upright legs.

3Pull the canvas over the roof

While the roof frame is still low, spread the canvas across the ridge and both roof slopes. Centre the canvas and keep the wall fabric loose for lifting.

  4. One side of a canvas-covered roof raised on wall legs, opposite side still low.

4Lift the sides and fit the legs

Carefully lift one eave, insert and seat its wall legs, then repeat on the opposite side. Keep the fabric clear of the connections. Use helpers for large frames.

  5. Fully raised canvas wall tent with visible doorway, stakes and guy lines.

    5Square and secure the tent

Straighten the walls and check that the corners are square. Secure the sod cloth and supplied ties; stake and tension guy lines where fitted, avoiding uneven pull points.

Optional stove: Follow the stove, chimney and tent manufacturers' installation and clearance instructions. Use the specified stove jack, chimney components and spark protection; do not guess at safe distances.

For takedown, reverse the frame steps and dry the canvas completely before storage.
