Ask us a question

Everything you need to know before you order a canvas wall tent. Still have a question? Email us at info@yukontents.ca — we're a small BC shop and we answer every message ourselves.

Canvas & materials

What weight is your canvas?

Every Yukon tent is made from heavyweight 10.10 oz Sunforger Army Duck cotton canvas — a tight double-fill weave that breathes, holds heat, and stands up to years of hard use. It's the same grade of canvas trusted on hunting and outfitter camps across the North.

Is the canvas treated?

Yes. Our Sunforger canvas is treated to be water-repellent, mildew-resistant, and flame-retardant to the CPAI-84 standard. That means it sheds rain, resists rot, and is safe to run a wood stove inside.

10 oz vs 12 oz — which do I need?

Our 10.10 oz Sunforger is the sweet spot for almost everyone: light enough to pack and handle, heavy enough for four-season camps. Heavier 12 oz canvas mostly adds weight and cost without much real-world benefit for most users. If you have a specialized need, contact us and we'll talk it through.

Will my tent leak in the rain?

A new canvas tent should be “seasoned” before its first hard trip: set it up, spray it down or let it see a light rain, and let it dry. This swells the cotton fibres and seals the needle holes along the seams. After seasoning, properly pitched canvas sheds weather extremely well. Full instructions are on our Tent Care page.

Will it get mouldy?

Canvas only develops mould if it's stored damp. The single most important habit is to always dry your tent completely before packing it away. Our canvas is mildew-treated to give you a margin of safety, but dry storage is what makes a tent last decades.

Stoves & heat

Can I run a wood stove inside?

Yes — that's what these tents are built for. Every Yukon wall tent includes a reinforced, fire-safe stove jack so you can vent a wood stove pipe through the canvas safely and keep camp warm in any season.

What size stove do I need?

As a rough guide, our 19"x23" Yukon wood stove suits the 10'x12' and 12'x14' tents, while the larger 19"x29" stove is better for the 14'x16' and up. Bigger tents in deep cold can run a larger stove for a longer burn. See our wood stoves or ask us for a recommendation.

Is the stove jack included?

Yes, the stove jack is built into the tent. The wood stove itself is sold separately so you can choose the right size for your tent and climate.

Frames & setup

Does the tent come with a frame?

The tent and the aluminum frame are sold separately, so you can match the frame to your tent or use your own poles. We also offer tent + frame bundles to keep it simple. Browse aluminum frames.

How hard is it to set up?

Two people can set up a Yukon tent and frame in well under an hour, with no special tools. Our seamless aluminum frames are cut to fit each tent size, so there's no guessing or cutting poles in the bush.

What is the frame made of?

Lightweight, rust-proof aluminum, sized specifically to each tent. Aluminum keeps the packed weight down and won't corrode like steel conduit over years of outdoor use.

Sizing

What size tent do I need?

It depends on how many people, whether you sleep on cots or the floor, and whether you're running a stove and gear. Our Tent Size Guide breaks down every size by capacity and use, and our Camp Planner gives you a quick recommendation.

How many people fit in each size?

As a rough rule: the 10'x12' suits a small hunting crew, the 12'x14' fits cots and furniture comfortably for a few people, the 14'x16' is the outfitter favourite, and the 16'x20' and 18'x24' are built for big crews, work camps, and gatherings. The Size Guide has the details.

Ordering, shipping & lead times

Are tents in stock or made to order?

It varies by size — some ship from stock and others are built to order in our shop. For current availability and lead times on a specific size, check the product page or send us a quick email.

Do you ship across Canada?

Yes. We ship to all 13 provinces and territories, with rates calculated by region at checkout. See our Shipping Information page for details.

Can I order a custom size or add-ons?

Yes — building our own tents means we can add porches, extra windows, different door configurations, and other custom touches, and we can quote custom sizes. Email us with what you have in mind.

Do you handle bulk, industry, or community orders?

Absolutely. We supply outfitters, mining and resource crews, and First Nations bands and organizations with multi-tent orders. Contact us for bulk and industry pricing.

Warranty, returns & repairs

What warranty do you offer?

Our tents come with a 1-year limited warranty against defects in materials and workmanship, plus a 72-hour money-back guarantee. Full details are on our Warranty & Returns page.

Do you repair tents?

Yes — and not just our own. We repair canvas wall tents of any brand and any age: patches, seams, zippers, mesh, and stove jacks. If a tent is worth saving, we'd rather fix it. Learn more on our Repairs page.

How long will a canvas tent last?

With basic care — mainly drying it before storage — a quality canvas wall tent lasts 20 years or more. It's a one-time investment, not a tent you replace every few seasons.
